Is milk good for you?

Health professionals recommend daily consumption of milk and dairy products as part of a varied and balanced diet. There are many scientific studies that back its health benefits. Milk and dairy products are foods of high nutritional value, as their composition contains virtually all nutrients in relatively high amounts. In addition to providing energy, they are an excellent source of protein of high biological value and other nutrients such as calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, iodine, selenium as well as B-complex vitamins and vitamins A and D.

Given their nutritional value, you are recommended to consume milk and dairy products on a daily basis equivalent to 2 to 4 servings of milk a day depending on age and physiological condition.

Main benefits

Milk is a source of proteins of high biological value, as it contains all the essential amino acids, even above the amounts set by the benchmark international standard for protein.

In addition, milk contains bioactive peptides, with scientifically proven benefits for the immune, cardiovascular and digestive systems.
It is the main dietary source of calcium, not only due to the high content of this mineral, but also its high bioavailability thanks to other components of milk: vitamin D, proteins, phosphorus, etc.

It is rich in vitamin A, especially important in growth, development, immunity and eye health.

Recent studies show that although milk fat was considered not beneficial due to its high content of saturated fatty acids, it is not only not harmful for cardiovascular health and other chronic diseases, such as metabolic syndrome and diabetes, but could have a protective effect through some saturated fatty acids present in milk fat.

On top of that, drinking milk is a pleasure.

Our cooperative’s organisational model allows us to control and optimise all stages of the production process, from the production of cow’s milk at our dairy farms to the packaging and marketing of the final products.

But the best milk can only come from the best farms. Feiraco milk only comes from our members’ farms, all of which are located in Galicia. Our members are the key element in our cooperative and we offer them permanent support and advice through our specialised technical team.

The quality guarantee of Feiraco products starts even before the selection of the best raw materials. Feed at our dairy farms is also one of our main concerns. Which is why we make our own animal feed, designed to suit our cow’s feeding needs in order to produce the best milk.

Our efforts for quality and innovation are supported by the Letra Q, Galega 100% and Galicia Calidade quality marks.

Environmental initiatives
The sense of responsibility towards our environment has resulted in many initiatives with which we aim to promote its care and conservation.

We have energy saving programmes in operation at the major dairy farms. In addition, we reduce the use of fertilisers and encourage the use of alternative energies.

We have worked on the optimisation of milk collection routes, reducing transport costs and minimising their environmental impact. As a result of our concern for reducing CO2 levels, we have also developed a study that aims to examine the relationship between livestock feed and CO2 emissions.

To make the Feiraco product packaging, we use FSC certified paper, guaranteeing it has been produced from raw materials originating only from responsibly managed forests.

What is FSC?

It is the mark of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), an independent organisation set up to promote responsible forest management worldwide.

All varieties of Feiraco milk (whole milk, semi-skimmed milk, skimmed milk, milk for Catering) and Feiraco Únicla milk and our yoghurt, milkshakes and cream, are sold in Tetra Pack cartons with the FSC label.
